1/2 Pound of hamburger
1 Bottle of your favorite commercial spaghetti sauce
1 Medium onion (sweet, yellow or white onions are best)
2 Garlic cloves (or 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder)
5 Ounces of spinach (optional)(you can substitute frozen spinach, but don’t wilt it, it’s already cooked and can just be added to the recipe)
1 Teaspoon of salt
1/2 Teaspoon black pepper
1/2 Teaspoon of onion powder (optional)
2 Teaspoons dried Italian seasonings (or to taste)
Dice the onion until you have 1/4 cup. Crush or finely mince the garlic cloves. Rinse the spinach, pick out any wilted pieces, then chop it.
Preheat deep skillet or large sauce pan over medium heat. Add hamburger and brown it while breaking it up into tiny pieces with your spatula. Stir in salt, black pepper and onions. When the onions start to turn translucent, slightly clear, stir in the garlic.
When the burger is cooked through and you don’t see any uncooked (pink) hamburger, stir in the spinach and wilt it. When the spinach is wilted, stir in your dried Italian seasonings. Taste the mix with a clean spoon to see if it’s the way you like it. Add more salt or any other ingredient if necessary.
Stir in the commercial spaghetti sauce until all ingredients are well mixed. Lower heat to just below medium, cover and bring to a simmer. Stir occasionally. Be careful when you remove the lid as the sauce may splatter.
Finish preparing your pasta according to the directions on the package. Serve with sauce.
