How to Cook a Plant-based Meatball Sub Recipe


Plant-based Meatball Sub


2 Medium sub rolls

6 Plant-based meatballs

1 Large can of tomato sauce

¼ Cup minced onion

2 Crushed garlic cloves

1 Teaspoon Italian seasonings

1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

1/3 Cup diced tomato

1/3 Cup diced red onion (you can use sweet or yellow onion)

10 Hamburger dill chips (optional, but I like them)

Parmesan cheese to taste


Put the following in a medium sized sauce pan: Peel and mince the sweet onion. Peel and crush or finely mince the garlic. Place the pan on the stove at just under medium heat and stir the olive oil in with the onions and garlic. Stir in the Italian seasonings, too. Saute the onions until they appear translucent. Takes 5-7 minutes

Stir in the tomato sauce and add the meatballs. Cover the pan and let the plant-based meatballs simmer in the sauce for the amount of time recommended on the package of meatballs you purchased.

Rinse off the tomato and dice it. Peel and mince the red onion. Cut the sub roll on top and remove some of the bread to create a hollow chamber for the meatballs and toppings.

When the meatballs are finished cooking, add three to your sub roll. If the meatballs are too big, cut them in half. Add sauce to them. Sprinkle on onions, tomatoes, pickles (optional) and grated cheese.
