How to Make a Plant-based Italian Sausage with Onions & Peppers Sandwich Recipe

Plant-based Italian Sausage Onion & Pepper Sub Sandwich Recipe



½ Cup plant-based sausage (hot or mild is fine)

¼ Green bell pepper

¼ Medium yellow onion (white or sweet onions are fine, too)

1 Medium sized sub or hoagie roll (hot dog or bratwurst rolls are fine, too)

1 Teaspoon butter to toast the roll

1 Tablespoon canola or vegetable oil

Salt to taste

Mustard optional


Rinse off the pepper and remove the core and seeds. Sliver ¼ of the pepper then cut the slivers into thirds. Peel the onion and sliver ¼ of it.

Preheat a pan over medium heat. Coat the bottom with butter and toast the inside of the roll.

Preheat a pan over medium heat. Coat the bottom with the canola or vegetable oil. Saute the onions and peppers until the onions start to brown. Stir in the plant-based sausage and brown it according to the directions on the package it was sold in. If the mix starts to smoke, turn the heat down a little.

Spoon the ingredients into the roll and add salt and pepper to taste.
